Terms of Service
Effective 31 October 2026
- You own your work. We only store and process it to run Cuttboard for you.
- Pro is US$5 a month and renews monthly until you cancel. Cancel any time with Cancel Pro in the account menu; you keep Pro until the paid month ends.
- Use your own or licensed material, and don't use AI voices to deceive people.
- Keep your own copies of important files. Cuttboard is not a backup service.
This summary helps you read the terms; the full text below is what applies.
1. This agreement
These terms are a contract between you and Solomon Mithra, a sole proprietor in California, USA, trading as Cuttboard (“Cuttboard”, “we”, “us”). They cover cuttboard.com and the Cuttboard app (together, “Cuttboard”). By signing in or otherwise using Cuttboard, you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data.
If you use Cuttboard for a company or other organization, you agree to these terms for it and confirm you may do so; “you” then includes it.
2. Who can use Cuttboard
- You must be at least 13, or older if the law where you live sets a higher minimum age for using online services on your own.
- If you are under 18 (or the age of majority where you live), a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you.
- Only adults can buy Pro.
- You can't use Cuttboard if US law bars you from receiving it, for example because you are in an embargoed country or on a US sanctions list.
3. Your account
You sign in with your Google account, so keep it secure. You are responsible for what happens in your Cuttboard account. Tell us at support@cuttboard.com if you think someone else is using it.
4. Plans, billing and cancellation
Free
The Free plan includes every editing tool, with the limits shown on our pricing: currently 250 MB of cloud storage, exports up to 720p with a small Cuttboard mark, and monthly AI allowances. We may change Free plan limits; if a change reduces them, we'll tell you first.
Pro
- Price: US$5 a month. Checkout may show it in your local currency, and shows the total, including any tax, before you pay.
- Automatic renewal: Pro renews every month, on the day of the month you subscribed, and is charged to the payment method you gave until you cancel.
- Cancel any time with Cancel Pro in your dashboard's account menu (or in Manage billing, or on link.com). Cancelling stops future charges; you keep Pro until the end of the month you've paid for, then your account returns to Free.
- Back on Free, your projects and cloud files stay, but you can't upload more until you're under the Free storage limit, and exports return to Free quality.
- Price changes: we'll email you 7 to 30 days before a new price applies to you, with how to cancel. If you don't want the new price, cancel before it starts.
- Failed payments: if a renewal can't be charged, your account may return to Free.
- Deleting your account cancels Pro straight away. The rest of that month isn't refunded.
Who sells Pro, and refunds
Pro is sold through Stripe's merchant-of-record service. At checkout, the seller of your subscription is Link, Stripe's payment service (shown as “Sold through Link”), and the payment terms shown at checkout apply to the purchase. Link charges you, handles tax and receipts, and helps with payment questions at support.link.com. These terms still cover your use of Cuttboard, including Pro's features.
Payments aren't refundable, and we don't refund part-months, except:
- where the law gives you a right to cancel and get your money back, such as a cooling-off period where you live (Link applies these);
- if you were charged by mistake;
- as section 12 says, if we shut Cuttboard down or close your account when you haven't broken these terms.
Link may also refund some payments within 60 days of the charge, under its own rules. If anything goes wrong with a payment, email us first and we'll put it right.
5. Your content
“Your content” means the files you import and the projects, text and exports you make. You own your content. We don't claim any rights to it beyond this section.
You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, process and send your content only as needed to run Cuttboard for you: for example to keep your files in cloud storage, make thumbnails and waveforms, and send audio or text to an AI feature when you use it. The licence also covers what the law requires of us. It ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in backups for the short time described in our Privacy Policy. We don't use your content to train AI models.
You are responsible for your content. You confirm you have all the rights you need to use it in Cuttboard and in what you export, including rights to music, footage, images, fonts you bring, and the faces and voices of people in it.
Keep your own copies. Cuttboard stores your files carefully, but it is not a backup service. Keep your original files and important exports somewhere else as well.
6. AI features
- Auto captions and AI voices are made automatically by AI models. They can be wrong, odd or offensive, and different people can get similar results. Check them before you publish.
- As between you and us, what the AI makes for you is yours, to the extent the law allows. The law may not give anyone copyright in purely AI-made material.
- Don't use AI voices to pretend to be a real person, to make it look like a real person said something they didn't, or to mislead, defraud or harass anyone. Don't present AI voice audio as a recording of a human.
- Where the law or a platform requires it, tell your audience that your video contains AI-generated or altered content. For example, the EU AI Act requires people who publish deepfakes to say so.
- AI voice files carry a tag in their metadata saying they're AI-generated.
- AI allowances are counted per calendar month (UTC) and reset on the 1st. Unused allowance doesn't carry over.
7. Acceptable use
Don't use Cuttboard to upload, make or share anything that:
- is illegal where you are, or helps someone break the law;
- infringes someone's copyright, trademark, privacy or publicity rights;
- sexualizes minors in any way (we report child sexual abuse material to the US National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, as the law requires);
- is intimate imagery of someone without their consent;
- threatens, harasses or incites violence against people, or promotes terrorism;
- contains malware.
And don't misuse Cuttboard itself:
- don't try to get around plan limits, storage quotas, AI allowances or export restrictions;
- don't break, probe or overload it, scrape it, or access other people's data or accounts;
- don't reverse engineer it, except where the law allows you to despite this term;
- don't resell Cuttboard or offer it to others as a service.
8. Reports and how we enforce these terms
We don't scan your content. We act on reports and on what we otherwise learn. To report content that breaks the law or these terms, email support@cuttboard.com with where it is, why you think it's unlawful or against these terms, and your name and email. A person (not an automated system) reviews each report.
If we restrict your content or account, we'll tell you what we did and why, unless the law or safety stops us, and you can reply to that email to ask us to reconsider.
9. Copyright complaints
We respect copyright and respond to notices under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act. If you believe material stored in Cuttboard infringes your copyright, send our designated agent a notice that includes:
- your physical or electronic signature;
- the copyrighted work you say is infringed;
- the material you say infringes it, with enough detail for us to find it (Cuttboard content is private, so tell us what you know, such as the account's email address or the file's name);
- your name, postal address, phone number and email address;
- a statement that you believe in good faith that the use isn't authorized by the copyright owner, its agent or the law;
- a statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner.
Designated agent: Solomon Mithra, Cuttboard, support@cuttboard.com, with “Copyright notice” in the subject.
Counter-notice: if we remove your material and you believe that was a mistake or misidentification, send our agent your physical or electronic signature; the material and where it was before removal; a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification; your name, address and phone number; and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, outside the US, any district where Cuttboard may be found) and will accept service from the person who sent the notice. We may then restore the material 10 to 14 business days later, unless that person tells us they've filed a court action.
Repeat infringers: we close, in appropriate circumstances, the accounts of users who repeatedly infringe copyright.
Knowingly false notices or counter-notices can make the sender liable for damages (17 U.S.C. §512(f)).
10. Cuttboard's software and name
Cuttboard's software, design, logo and name belong to us or our licensors. These terms let you use Cuttboard; they don't give you any other rights to it. Open-source parts are licensed under their own licences, listed in our licence notices. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without any obligation to you.
Figma, Premiere Pro, Lumetri and other product names we mention are trademarks of their owners. We mention them only to describe what Cuttboard does; Cuttboard isn't affiliated with or endorsed by them.
11. Fonts and the sample project
The fonts built into the editor are open-source under the SIL Open Font License, so you can use them in your videos, including commercial ones. The “Hello, world” sample project uses public-domain NASA footage and the track “Hope and Love” by Loyalty Freak Music, released under CC0. You may use them in your own videos too, but NASA footage must not suggest that NASA endorses you.
12. Changes to Cuttboard, and ending your use
We keep improving Cuttboard, so features may change, and we may add or remove some. We won't make Pro materially worse during a month you've paid for. If we ever shut Cuttboard down, we'll give at least 30 days' notice so you can download your files, and we'll refund any time you've paid for and can't use.
You can stop using Cuttboard and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if the law requires it, or to protect other people or Cuttboard. Where we can, we'll warn you first and give you a chance to download your files. If we close a Pro account when you haven't broken these terms, we'll refund the time you've paid for and can't use.
13. Other services
Signing in uses Google, payments use Stripe, and Cuttboard runs on Cloudflare. Their own terms cover your use of their services, and we aren't responsible for them.
14. Disclaimer
Cuttboard is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and that Cuttboard will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that files will never be lost or exports will work everywhere.
15. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, files or goodwill, even if we were told they were possible. Our total liability for all claims about Cuttboard or these terms is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for Cuttboard in the 12 months before the claim arose, or US$50.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow to be limited, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. If you live in the EEA or the UK, you keep your rights under consumer law: we are responsible for loss you suffer that was a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill.
16. Indemnity
To the extent the law allows, if someone brings a claim against us because of your content or your breaking these terms or the law, you will cover our reasonable losses and costs from it, including legal fees. This doesn't apply to the extent the claim comes from our own fault.
17. Disputes
Talk to us first. Most problems can be fixed by email. Before starting a claim, email support@cuttboard.com with what went wrong and what you want, and we'll both try in good faith to settle it within 30 days.
Law: California law governs these terms and any dispute about Cuttboard, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
Courts: either of us may take a claim to small claims court if it qualifies. Otherwise, disputes go to the state or federal courts located in California, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction.
If you live in the EEA, the UK or another country whose law gives consumers protections that a contract can't take away, you keep them, and you can also bring a claim in the courts where you live.
18. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll tell you by email or in the app at least 14 days before it takes effect, unless it's needed sooner for legal reasons. If you keep using Cuttboard after it takes effect, the new terms apply. If you don't agree, stop using Cuttboard and cancel Pro; you can delete your account.
19. General
- Notices: we send notices to your account's email address or show them in the app. You send them to support@cuttboard.com. You agree to receive these notices electronically.
- Whole agreement: these terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Cuttboard.
- If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If we don't enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- Transfer: you may not transfer these terms to someone else. We may transfer them to whoever takes over Cuttboard, and we'll tell you.
- Events beyond our control, such as outages at our providers, excuse delays they cause.
